About The Grant

Who We Fund

Chalk It Up primarily supports Sacramento’s Youth Arts through our commitment to quality arts endeavors in all artistic disciplines, including visual arts, music, dance, theater, literature, film, and digital arts. We accept grant applications from individuals or groups of young people, as well as from artistic or nonprofit organizations. Chalk It Up attempts to accommodate as many types of grants applicants as possible, however we have developed a few guidelines that may help you decide if a Chalk It Up grant is right for you. Please click here to download our 2017 Grant Guidelines which provide more details about eligibility, types of funded programs, as well as an FAQ.

Funding Amounts

Our grant program funds individuals, groups, or organizations for amounts up to $500. If you are applying for funding, please provide a specific price breakdown for our records. If you are funded by Chalk It Up, you will need to provide documentation (receipts, invoices) to demonstrate how the funds were used. All unused money may be requested back by Chalk It Up at any time.

Grant Seasons

Chalk It Up accepts and reviews applications on a rolling basis during our open seasons, Winter (December 1 – January 31), Spring (March 1 – April 30), and Fall (September 1 – October 31). After completing the grant application process, you will receive an email notifying you that Chalk It Up has received your grant application. After a preliminary review of your application, Chalk It Up will schedule a short phone or Skype interview to further discuss your application and learn more about your proposal. At the end of the grant season, all grants will be given to the Board of Directors for final approval, and you can expect a decision from the board within 30 days of the season close date. If your funding request is time sensitive, please note that clearly in your application, and we will contact you promptly to see how we can work within your time constraints. If you have any questions, or require more details about the grant application process, please email

A Grants Community

Beginning this year, Chalk It Up is attempting to start building a larger Youth Arts community through our grant program. As part of this program we will be communicating more intentionally with our funded projects, asking for more pictures, videos, and testimonials so that we can better track our impact in the community. We will also strive to feature our funded projects more prominently on social media and our website, and would like to help advertise and promote your projects and programs as well. This initiative is still in its planning stages, so if you have any ideas for how Chalk It Up can further support you beyond our financial support, please email us at
